New SEAI Grant & Increased Supports for Homeowners Confirmed for 2026
Homeowners across Ireland will soon benefit from new SEAI grants and increased supports, following a government announcement confirming expanded funding for home energy upgrades in 2026.
The updated grants are designed to make it easier and more affordable to improve home comfort, lower energy bills and support Ireland’s climate action targets. The announcement was made on Tuesday 27 January 2026, with changes introduced in two phases from February and March.
What new SEAI grants are being introduced in 2026
The new SEAI grant increases will roll out in stages, with different measures becoming available at different times.
New SEAI insulation grants from February 2026
From early February, homeowners will see increased support for some of the most common upgrades. Grants for attic insulation and cavity wall insulation have increased, with detached homes now eligible for up to €2,000 for attic insulation and €1,800 for cavity wall insulation, with scaled support across other home types.
A major change is the introduction of a fixed heat pump grant of up to €12,500 for most homes. This includes a €4,000 Renewable Heat bonus and a €2,000 central heating grant, simplifying the process for homeowners planning to switch to low-carbon heating. Apartments can access heat pump grants of up to €9,500, while air-to-air heat pumps are supported up to €7,500.
A High Temperature Heat Pump pilot will also be introduced under the National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme.
New SEAI grants from March 2026
From March, several new grants and expanded eligibility changes will come into effect.
For the first time, homeowners will be able to access a dedicated Windows and Doors grant, with support of up to €4,000 for energy-efficient windows in detached homes and €800 per external door, up to two doors.
Homeowners receiving qualifying Social Protection payments will be able to access higher insulation grants, along with an enhanced BER grant of €280. First Time Buyers upgrading older homes will also benefit from higher attic insulation grants, helping reduce upfront costs after purchase.
Eligibility rules are also being relaxed. Homeowners who have already completed one wall insulation upgrade may now qualify for a second wall insulation grant. Under the One Stop Shop scheme, the minimum energy uplift requirement and the requirement for a pre-works BER of B3 or worse are both being removed where a heat pump is installed.
What the SEAI grant increases mean for homeowners
In practical terms, these SEAI grant increases mean more support, fewer restrictions and greater flexibility when planning home energy upgrades.
Depending on your home, you may now be able to access higher grants for insulation, heating systems and windows, combine upgrades more easily over time, and proceed with heat pump installations without restrictive eligibility thresholds.
The increased grant amounts will also apply to existing live applications where a Request for Payment has not yet been submitted.
