We were delighted to welcome the SEAI to see the energy saving projects we carried out at Down Syndrome Cork’s Field of Dreams in 2023. It’s great to hear how their energy bills have greatly been reduced through these projects and they are also generating their own electricity on site through their Solar PV system.
The Field of Dreams was built in 2017 by Down Syndrome Cork. Their mission is to provide opportunities for adults with Down Syndrome for ongoing learning and growth through a variety of different programmes. Set in a 3-acre, horticultural site in Curraheen, Cork, Field of Dreams is a training environment, with an emphasis on learning through meaningful and productive tasks in a social and holistic setting.
They grow chemical free produce for the local community, and have 3 polytunnels, various themed gardens including a Fruit Garden, Vegetable Garden, Sensory Garden, Pumpkin Patch, Orchard, Remembrance Garden, Flower Garden, a multipurpose log cabin for training purposes, and a commercial grade kitchen & canteen and courtyard with picnic tables for outdoor dining.
