The Challenge
Brian Dillons is one of the oldest GAA Clubs in Cork City, located at the Tank Field in Montenotte. The club caters for boys and girls of all ages in hurling, football, and camogie. The club contacted SE Systems looking to improve the energy efficiency of the building and to make their facilities warmer and more comfortable for its members to use.
The Solution
In 2017 SE Systems partnered with Brian Dillons GAA to enhance the sustainability of their community sports club. An energy audit was carried out to identify the most appropriate energy saving upgrades that the club could carry out. Following a review of the findings the following energy saving measures were installed:
- Installed Cavity Wall Insulation
- Installed insulation to the pitched roof
- 3.975 kWp Solar PV system to generate electricity
- Replaced the existing 30 kW boiler (78.2% efficiency) with a more efficient 20 kW boiler (90% efficiency)
- Upgraded single glazed windows to double glazing
The Impact
The energy efficiency upgrades resulted in significant energy savings. The club’s energy bills were reduced, and the facilities were easier to heat, stayed warmer for longer and importantly provided a more comfortable space for their members. These works also demonstrated Brian Dillons commitment to sustainability within the GAA Community. The club is situated in the heart of the community and others locally were encouraged to install Solar PV panels after seeing them on the roof of the building and seeing the benefits of generating their own electricity
The following savings were achieved as a result of the energy efficiency upgrades.
- Electrical Savings: 313.65 kWh
- Thermal Savings: 387.322 kWh
The executive Committee of Brian Dillons H&F Club have found SE Systems to be a very well organised and proactive company who provided a One Stop Shop Service to our club in our Energy Reduction Journey. From initial concept to project delivery the team at SE Systems were at hand to meet our needs in every aspect.
