Overview
District Health & Leisure Club is a 50,000 sq. ft. sports complex that has quickly become a cornerstone for the local community. From a modern fitness centre and spinning studio to astro pitches and a 25-metre swimming pool, the facilities are world-class. The challenge was that the energy bills were equally large.
The Challenge
District Health & Leisure Club has been open for five years, revitalising a former clubhouse in Silversprings, Cork into a modern 50,000 sq. ft. facility. The building now encompasses:
- A large full-service gym
- Gym space in the astropitches
- One indoor and one outdoor pitch
- A spinning studio
- A 25-metre swimming pool
- Cafés and additional community amenities
While the transformation was a success, the facility faced extremely high monthly energy bills. Leadership sought a sustainable way to lower consumption and create certainty in operational costs for the community it serves in and around Silversprings.
The Solution
SE Systems’ team of Cork-based solar PV engineers and specialists designed and delivered a bespoke installation to meet the scale and needs of District Health & Leisure Club. The system was carefully planned to minimise disruption during works while maximising long-term benefits for the facility.
Key elements included:
- 532 solar panels installed across the building’s roof space
- Full management of ESB connection requirements
- Installation of G10 grid protection relay, surge protection and interfacing with their fire alarm system for safety and reliability
- Provision of scaffolding and site safety measures to ensure a smooth and efficient installation
- Minimise disruption to the business by provided out-of-hours facility shutdown
The solar PV system was built not only to reduce energy costs immediately, but also to future-proof the facility for many years to come, supporting both operational resilience and sustainability goals.
