Douglas community school

Summary
Client: Douglas Community School
Location: Cork
Sector: Educational & Public
The Challenge
Douglas Community School had inefficient lighting that accounted for a significant proportion of their overall electricity bills. Covering the cost of replacing the lighting had a high capital expenditure cost and they required additional funding to meet the costs of the works.
The Solution
In 2021, the school decided to upgrade their lighting to energy efficient LED Lights. They also wanted to encourage users of the school to use electrical vehicles, so they installed 4 Electric Vehicle chargers.
SE Systems applied for an SEAI grant under the Communities program for the school. SE Systems worked closely with NCE Insulation, KPR Electrical (the contractors) and the client to ensure the project was delivered to SEAI technical standards.

The Impact
Installing 615 LED lighting reduced their overall electrical consumption in the school while also greatly enhancing the lighting throughout the building. The EV charging infrastructure allows staff, students, and visitors of the school to charge their electric cars, supporting more sustainable transport within the school community.
The following savings were achieved:
- Electrical Savings from the lighting: 10,087.35 kWh
- EV Chargers: 2,860 kWh
