The Challenge
The Wild Atlantic Pool is a community run swimming pool and gym in the village of Baltimore in West Cork. They had high electricity bills from heating the pool and running the facilities, and the committee was looking for solutions to reduce their bills and carbon emissions.
Following submission of the SEAI grant application, The Covid 19 Pandemic hit, and the pool was forced to close to the public and they had to decide if they were going to proceed with the project, considering their loss of revenue due to the unexpected closure. The committee of volunteers were committed to their long-term environmental goals and decided to proceed with the project.
The Solution
A tender for the works was carried out and in 2020 the Wild Atlantic Pool installed an 18kWp Solar PV System on the roof of the pool to harness solar energy for the facility’s operations.
The role of SE Systems was Project Co Ordinator for the SEAI Community Energy Grant. SE Systems worked closely with NCE Insulation, Advanced Heating & Energy Systems (the contractors) and the client to ensure the project was delivered to SEAI technical standards. This project was co funded by the SEAI through the Communities Energy Grant.
The Impact
The community run Wild Atlantic Pool and Fitness Centre in Baltimore had their solar panels fitted at a difficult time, in the summer of 2020. The grant application to SEAI went through SE systems in January that year.
Working with Paddy Rose from Advanced Heating and Energy Systems, Caitriona from SE systems pulled our application together in time despite its complexity, with some highly technical aspects, and the tight deadline.
Our thanks go to them for their helpfulness and attention to detail leading to a successful result. I would certainly recommend them to other groups looking at applying for grants.
