Energy Saving Projects, From Primary to Third Level

Empowering schools to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs while educating future generations.

Overview

SE Systems have successfully worked with schools, libraries, colleges, and universities across Ireland to deliver energy saving projects which have greatly improved the comfort and energy efficiency of these buildings. These works included wall and attic Insulation, windows and doors upgrades, LED Lighting, EV charging and energy monitoring. We have also assisted these projects with energy audits and successfully applied for SEAI Community Energy grants. In addition, SE Systems are experienced contractors in delivering works under the Department of Education’s Summer Works Scheme.

Upskilling people in energy retrofitting will be key to unlock our climate action plan retrofitting targets. SE Systems Management engaged with SETU (Southeast Technical University) Waterford Wexford ETB and Industry representatives with the intent of collaborating in the development of a Level 7 retrofitting in Ireland course.

How can we help you?

SE Systems provides a one stop shop solution offering the following services:

We had the pleasure of working with 10 schools in Cork in collaboration with SE Systems to improve the student’s knowledge and understanding of energy consumption. Schools received energy monitoring equipment and monitored all their usage. Through support from ourselves and SE SYSTEMS, we supported the students in various projects and a leaderboard was updated weekly. The students faced a number of challenges and the feedback was fantastic to say the least. The competition gave the students a great understanding of energy and the input from the schools was tremendous to see.

Measures supported & grants available

Education facilities can qualify for between 30% to 50% grant funding through the SEAI Community Energy grant. We have also assisted these groups with additional funding through our community fund. The following measures are covered under the SEAI grant.

The Carbon Club

In partnership with the Carbon Club, a not for profit organisation, we installed energy monitoring in ten Cork ETB post primary schools with a plan to run this out nationally over the coming years. The inaugural Schools Carbon Club Challenge was held between 2022 to 2023. The ten Secondary Schools competed against each other to see who could save the most kilowatts of energy and reduce their carbon emissions. An Energy Monitoring system with a visual display screen was installed in each school so that all students could see live energy consumption data in the school as well as the associated CO2 emissions. Each school set up an energy team with transition year students who acted as Energy Team Ambassadors in their school and completed challenges throughout the year. The winning school received a free 10 kWp Solar PV system and each school that competed in the competition had an energy audit carried out as well as receiving a free electric vehicle charger. This project was funded through the SE Systems Community fund and the energy metering was co-funded through the SEAI Community Energy Grant.
